The formula to finding MHR is based on age however this formula should have an additional heart rate monitor watch test.  There are three formulas to estimate maximum heart rate. 

First, this formula has you subtract your age from the number 220 for men and 226 for women which is a good formula for beginner or someone who has a slow pace lifestyle.  Second, is the formula that is very close to the first but would be the formula for those who already live an active lifestyle.  Take half of your age subtract it from the number 205 is the way this formula works.  Third, is very close to the one’s before this .  Men would use 80% of their age and then subtract it for the number 214 and subtract 70% of the age from the number 209 for women. 

These formulas are based on a curve that gives you an approximate number for MHR which will help your start your fitness program.
