When you’re shopping around for a heart rate monitor, consider the benefits of a strapless device. While some heart rate monitors are outfitted with a chest strap, a strapless heart rate monitor watch can eliminate a lot of extra steps required in securing that chest strap.
One of the downsides of using a heart monitor with straps is the potential for chaffing. Since the strap wraps around your body, this can cause discomfort after extended exercise. Placement of the strap can be especially problematic for women who have to fit the strap around their chests and bras. Some people go so far as to purchase an electrolyte gel to ensure solid contact is made between the strap and skin.
But with a strapless monitor, these steps aren’t necessary. You just have to place your fingers on the device itself, so that it can detect your heart rate at any given time. This is helpful for people who maintain a fairly constant level of intensity throughout the exercise routine. If that’s the case, you don’t have to continually check your heart rate.
